ʻAha Aloha ʻŌlelo 2018: Hoʻokūkū Papa 9 – Ka Lehulehu

ʻAha Aloha ʻŌlelo is an annual Hawaiian language speech competition held in Kailua-Kona on the island of Hawaiʻi where speakers from preschool through adult ages compete in a variety of categories from memorized rescitations of literature and noted speeches, to chant and singing. It is a testament to the living oral tradition of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, being fostered among young and old engaged in the Hawaiian language movemnt. This particular segment is of students in grades 9-12 as well as parents and teachers who competed in a series of categories including memorization, speech, song and chant. In the memorization category, students were tasked with reciting an excerpt from two Hawaiian language newspapers, Ke Aloha Aina and Ka Nupepa Kuokoa.
